I have lived in Port Richmond since 1997, I 1st lived in a house on the 3700 block of Richmond st and then in 2006, I moved into an apartment building at Richmond n Indiana Ave and still live there today, I lived on Cambria st, near Salmon in between those places, this is all way before my Philadelphia foodie book “Table For One” was published and long, long before our “Dining On A Dime” podcast/radio show started, people often ask me for my favorite spots in Port Richmond so I want to give you 5 of my favorite spots in the neighborhood that I have lived in for half of my life
5–Marys Lunch–3600 Richmond st–great spot with an old school vibe and you can get delicious food at a great price, we have mentioned them during the “Dining On A Dime” breakfast show
4–Misnik’s Deli–2530 E Allegheny Ave–in my opinion, one of the most underrated hoagie spots in the entire city, great hoagies, at a great price, I like a good liverwurst and cheese on a long roll and they give you a nice one of those, for just around 4 bucks, I’ve had just about all of their hoagies and they are great, I can’t believe that more food bloggers are not writing about them
3–The Dinner House–2706 E Allegheny Ave–Port Richmond has always been known for a place to get delicious, polish food and although this place has not been around as long as the others, the food is absolutely delicious, I had one of the best soups I’ve ever had there, can’t remember the name, but it had kielbasa and oddly enough mashed potatoes in the soup
2–Kitty’s Luncheonette–2721 E Somerset st–I am only giving you my 5 favorites and very easily could’ve chosen the Hinge, right down the street, but Kitty’s won because I absolutely love their breakfast and had the best spinach omelet Ive ever had, a few years ago, they could have easily thrown bagged spinach in a pan, but this had a delicious garlic flavor, that I still remember to this day, nice place to sit and relax and enjoy a great breakfast or lunch, they also have daily specials
1–The Pizza Store 2727 E Allegheny Ave–the debate on best pizza spot is very heated in Port Richmond and Moe from Mojus was a guest on the “Dining On A Dime” old radio segment on ESPN radio, he is doing very new and exciting things, people also love 3 Brothers, Aramingo’s Best and more, but I chose The Pizza Store, because of their longevity and their consistency of putting out great food, I often go there and get the eggplant parmesan, on a long roll, it’s a good price and the eggplant parm is delicious
